June 23 – Giants Stadium
In front of 20,000 people the U.S. Women’s National Team defeated the very skilled and quick team from Brasil, and the EUSA Shadow, a girls’ team was there to cheer them on. It didn’t take long after the kick-off for everyone in attendance to realize that this was going to be a tough game for both squads. But a free kick from Captain Kristine Lilly went up and over a Brasilian defensive wall to wind up in the back of the net. Later, a brilliant cross in front of the goal area was headed home by Abby Wambach. That was all the USA needed for them to win the game and make it a great day for USA soccer (the U-20 men’s team beat Chile in a match played just before the women played).
