In recent years the roster sizes of the teams in EUSA’s Recreation League and Micro‑Soccer Program have grown far beyond what is stated in nation‑wide recommended guidelines. The reason is simple: too many parents are not volunteering to become head coaches. There are no valid reasons why more parents cannot volunteer to become head coaches. Despite various attempts to help parents become certified as coaches, the number of head coaches continues to lessen with each passing season. The result of this lack of volunteerism is that EUSA must now start to strictly enforce rules and guidelines that have been in effect since the Club was formed decades ago.
For many years, EUSA has offered the opportunity for parents to make special requests when it comes to the placement of their children onto teams. At no time has EUSA ever stated that A) the creation of teams would be governed by these special requests, and B) that EUSA was ever obligated to honor any request made for any reason. If circumstances permit, a limited number of reasonable special requests can be considered. However, those special requests will only be considered if they meet the following guidelines:
· In Grades K and 1, EUSA will not consider any special requests as children are placed solely by the school they attend.
· In Grades 2 through 8, EUSA will not consider any special request made for a child to be placed with a specific coach (head or assistant), team, or another child whose parent happens to be a coach in the same division. There are no exceptions to this policy.
· In Grades 2 through 8, EUSA will consider a special request made for a child to be placed with up to two (2) other children as long as the following conditions are met:
o None of the children’s parents are volunteering to be a coach in the same division.
o All of the children are from the same school or school group (see chart below).
o Your request meets the following conditions:
You make a request that:
EUSA will only consider this request if:
Your child be placed onto the same team as Player B
The parents of Player B MUST request that their child be placed with your child AND such a request will not cause problems with the Division Director following the policies regarding team creation.
Your child be placed onto the same team as Player B AND Player C
The parents of Player B AND Player C both request that their children be placed with yours AND they request that Players B and C be placed together as well AND such a request will not cause problems with the Division Director following the policies regarding team creation. If the parents of Players B AND C both ask for your child, but do not ask for each other, then EUSA may only consider placing your child with EITHER Player B or C if conditions permit it.
It is important for parents to understand that special requests will not be considered at all if your child is part of a group within a division that must participate in a player lottery to determine who plays and who doesn’t if there are not enough head coaches. For those children who do not attend a public school; your request will only be considered if the other players that you request are in the same geographical school or school group area (see below).
